TO OBTAIN A PERMIT FROM THIS OFFICE YOU MUST

1. Be correctly addressed for 911 purposes. This can be obtained from the permit office.

2. Obtain a sewer permit from the Assumption Parish Health Unit, 158 Hwy 1008, Napoleonville, LA 70390. The sanitarian is available Tuesday through Thursday between 8:00AM & 10:00 AM, or you can call (985) 369-6031 for an appointment. Only the property owner, a notarized designated agent or a leaser with a valid lease agreement may obtain a permit to install a wastewater treatment system or obtain a utility connect. All applicants must have a deed and correct physical address, or if it is family property, you must have a deed and a current tax notice. In the event it is family property, only the individual designated on the tax notice may apply for the sewage permit.

3. Obtain a form from the Assessor’s Office in the Courthouse (369-6385).

4. Obtain a copy of the Contractor’s License or request an Affidavit of Exemption which must be notarized.

5. Sites that have been determined to be in a flood zone must comply with the Floodplain Management Guidelines. Your flood zone is ________, the base flood elevation is ___________. Listed are the guidelines:

A. New Construction being erected on a slab must obtain two elevation certificates completed by a registered land surveyor or engineer; one grade elevation and one final elevation of the lowest floor of the development and any mechanical equipment I.E. (sewer pump and A/C units.) Additional buildings such as sheds, shops and other buildings must be in compliance with the parish ordinance.

B. Mobile Homes being moved on property in a flood zone area are recommended but not required to have two elevation certificates completed by a registered land surveyor or engineer. The grade elevation is optional; however, the final elevation is mandatory. In the event you choose not to get a grade elevation, you are assuming responsibility for the structure being elevated to the proper base flood elevation (BFE.) If the mobile home is not at the proper BFE at the time of the final elevation it will be required that the mobile home be elevated to the correct BFE and another elevation must be shot with an elevation certificate issued to certify the mobile home and mechanicals are elevated to the correct BFE. C. When building on shore banks or over water some areas are considered to be V Zones which require the elevation to be BFE +2 feet.

6. Commercial permits must have State Fire Marshall’s approval. (800-256-5452) New commercial buildings/additions must have a licensed contractor perform the work and present a copy of the Contractor’s License, unless the cost of the new construction/addition is less than $50,000.00.

7. All building sites shall stipulate that no exterior wall of a residence or building shall be constructed nearer than eight (8) feet from the side lines or ten (10) feet from back property lines of said lot or building site. No overhang of any type shall extend nearer than five (5) feet from the side lines of said lot of building site. Fractional lots sold as a unit stipulates no residence or building shall be erected nearer than eight (8) feet from the side lines of said unit. All building sites shall stipulate that no exterior wall of a residence or building shall be constructed nearer than twenty (20) feet from the road or highway right of way. Structures on property located on a corner lot must meet the 20 foot setback requirements for both the road or highway right of way. No exterior wall of any structure on said lot should be nearer than ten (10) feet from any other exterior wall of any other structure on the said lot.
